OUR HISTORy

After the Montana State Legislature passed the Fire Service Area Act in the late 1980s, partially funding rural departments with revenue from the tax base, the stage was set for the Paradise Valley Fire Department to be formally established in 1991. After being headquartered at Chico Hot Springs, the department moved to its current location in 1995.

Early equipment included a military vehicle that was equipped with a water tank, as well as an engine purchased from another fire department. In 1993, Philip Hoag, who remains active with PVFD to this day, established the Emergency Medical Services arm of the department with the purchase of a pre-owned ambulance and the training of five emergency medical technicians.

Since those early years, the department has grown to include a vast array of vehicles ranging from Type I structure fire engines to brush trucks and two ambulances. Our department includes twenty-five active firefighters and EMTs, all working as volunteers.

Weekly trainings are held on Wednesday nights at the fire station.

In addition to receiving limited public funds, PVFD exists and grows through occasional grant funding and the generosity of our local community. Our primary fund-raiser is the Paradise Valley Firefighters Christmas Ball, held annually on the first Saturday after Thanksgiving at Chico Hot Springs.

We are grateful for area residents for helping us become the best department we can be!
